When moving off in AUTO mode, the ALL MODE 4x4 engages 4WD as soon as the
accelerator is pressed for a quick, sure start-up - even in the mud or on a slippery slope.
The ALL MODE 4x4 also incorporates a sophisticated 4WD controller that monitors driving conditions and activates the
electronically controlled coupling to distribute the required torque to each of the four wheels.
This delivers reassuring performance even in the most demanding on- or off-road conditions.
2WD mode
The newly designed 4WD switch is easy to use and offers three driving modes to choose from.
2WD mode provides excellent fuel economy in normal, on-road driving conditions.
AUTO mode
In AUTO mode, sensors automatically detect the need for extra traction and distribute the appropriate torque between front
wheel drive and full-time four-wheel drive.
LOCK mode
This mode locks the X-TRAIL in 4x4 with
a fixed front-to-rear torque distribution ratio of 57:43 for added traction.
