Nissan: Number 1 Brand For First Seven Months 1999 |
|
| |
|
Nissan's 1326 July Sales Surpass June’s Record of
1172
[3 August, 1999]Tan Chong last month recorded its highest
sales registrations of 1326 units in a single month,
surpassing its record of 1172 units set in June.
Nissan: Number 1 Brand in Overall Sales
(passenger + commercial + taxi segments)
Two consecutive months of record registrations propelled
Nissan’s overall sales up to July this year to take the
lead with 5816 units, a jump of 34.3% over 4331 units for
the same period last year, and surpassing Toyota’s 5643
units.
Nissan’s overall market share currently stands at 22.63%
compared to 19.67% for the same period last year.
Nissan: Number 1 Brand for 3 Consecutive Months
Overall Sales
(May, June, July 1999)
According to MTA’s monthly figures, for three consecutive
months from May 1999, Tan Chong had been leading in the
overall market (passenger + commercial + taxis combined)
monthly sales registrations, with its market share rising
from 18.6% in May to 26.5% in June and 30.74 % in July.
Nissan: Number 1 Brand in Passenger and Commercial
Segment
For the two segments combined, Nissan takes pole position,
leading by 379 units with 5365 sales for the first seven
months of the year. Toyota is in second position with 4986
units.
Nissan: Number 1 Brand in Passenger Car
Segment
Nissan is currently in the lead for passenger vehicle
segment with 3791 units and taking 20.35% market share for
the first seven months this year. Trailing in second
position is Toyota with 3371 units.
Total passenger car sales improved a significant 74.1% over
2177 units the same period last year.
The strong performance is attributable to the good sales of
Nissan Sunny especially the newly introduced Sunny VIP.
Best Selling Passenger Car: Nissan Sunny
The Nissan Sunny is, by far, the best selling model for the
first seven months of this year. To date, Tan Chong has
sold 3141 units, a more than 200% jump over 1044 units for
the same period last year.
Best Selling Commercial Vehicle: Nissan
Cabstar
The Nissan Cabstar, a long-standing winner in the light
truck segment, is currently leading the pack with 1080
units. This is an increase of 4.8% over the same period
last year.
Best Selling pickup: Nissan Pickup
The Nissan Pickup is the best selling pickup in the market
with 228 units registered so far this year, a growth of 39%
over 164 units for the same period last year.
Best Selling Taxi : Nissan Cedric
Nissan’s strength in the taxi market also pushed the Nissan
Cedric taxi to be the best selling taxi model with 451
units for the first seven months this year. Nissan’s taxi
market share grew from 33.61% to 40.7%, a growth of 21.1%

Nissan Cefiro VQV6 Engine Wins Again |

Named One of the Ten Best Engines for 5 Consecutive
Years
The Nissan VQV6 3.0 engine used in the Nissan Cefiro has
been named for the fifth-straight year to the
prestigious “Ten Best Engines” list compiled by editors at
Ward’s Communications, Inc., a leading automotive trade
publisher in the United States.
The Nissan “VQ” engine is one of just two engines that have
been voted to the list every year that editors of Ward’s
Auto World magazine and Ward’s Engine and Vehicle
Technology Update newsletter have named the best engines in
vehicles sold in North America.
The VQV6 engine features microfinishing of camshafts and
crankshafts, a digital knock control system and a cross-
flow coolant pattern. The engine produces more power and
torque while being more fuel efficient, quieter and smaller
than its predecessor.
“Five years after its launch, it remains in the opinion of
Ward’s Best Engine testers, the best V-6 available in the
U.S. at any price,” said Bill Visnic, technical editor of
Ward’s Auto World.
“Being named to this list is a great honour, and being
named every year since the list has been made is even a
greater honour,” said Shigeo Ishida, president of Nissan
Research and Development, Inc., who accepted this year’s
award on behalf of Nissan. “This VQ engine, which is also
used in Nissan products in Europe and Japan, truly is a
world-class engine in world-class cars.
Over in Singapore, sales of the Cefiro have also been
outstanding. In 1997, Tan Chong Motors sold 225 units,
which doubled to 450 in 1998. And, for the first quarter of
this year, Tan Chong Motors put close to 200 Cefiros on the
road, making it the most popular Japanese 2-litre car.
